It's generally common knowledge that academics do not handle "real life" issues very well. If they can't put it in a statistical model, then they probably won't get it.
This is why it is awkward walking around my office building with a growing pregnant belly- lot's of weird conversations. Here are my favorite responses to my pregnancy disclosure:
1) "I guess it's ok to have one kid....just don't have any more."
2) "Wait, so do you mean YOU are actually having the baby? Like, you are PHYSICALLY pregnant?"
3) "Ok, ok, stop...." blushes and puts up hand before I can finish telling the "story."
Sigh. It's gonna be a long 17 more weeks...
P.S. Speaking of awkward, check out these hilarious awkward family Christmas photos.
Hang in their momma! These people must not get out a lot, like they have never met a pregnant person before. Weird. But can you blame comment #2? After hearing you say kids were not on the "to do list" many moons ago, it is a big surprise to see your baby bump pics. I'm over the moon excited for you guys!! I have some serious catching up to do!!
